This year they spent the first week in nonfiction books tied to their era. That gave our students such a stronger understanding of that time in history. It made a huge difference! With that background knowledge, making the nonfiction timeline was much easier. We had our kiddos add the fiction timeline at the end of their reading, but next time I'd love for them to add those events throughout their reading. Since we had multiple book clubs reading within an era, we also could have had them create one fiction timeline and outline all of their HF books on that timeline to see how the stories all fit within the era. So many options!! Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3532852594649328829.post-40533558570174414072016-04-16T12:20:23.830-05:002016-04-16T12:20:23.830-05:00No problem! What clues did the author give us on when it took place, etc. We, then, compared it to our original nonfiction work on our era. (We built a timeline for that era way back in the beginning when we first studied NF info about our book club era). Then, they just needed to make a "timeline" of their book and put the two together. It was a fun process! It did cover a few literacy blocks of work time! They LOVED learning about the different eras from each other! Hope that helps! If not, feel free to email or call and we can chat more! Always great to hear from you!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3532852594649328829.post-24803590049364039442016-04-16T11:56:44.700-05:002016-04-16T11:56:44.700-05:00You two have done it again - I LOVE this! I'm very interested in your double timeline - could you share a little more about that (instructions you give the students, expectations, etc.)?<br />ms bollinghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08255183987863645725noreply@blogger.com
